Am considering the Dominican Republic as a first stop on my Caribbean dive trip! Anyone been diving there lately (looking into Scubafun in Bayahibe)? Would be there in December, should I consider the north coast? Would I find E6 developing for my slides? Thanks for any tips!!!

Hi Nemo. I dove with scubafun last November and would recommend them. From what I understand the south coast has the better diving (I've only dove the Bayhibe area). I thoght that the diving was good but Have not been elsewhere in the Carribbean so take this FWIW.
The wreck of the St. George is a good dive as well as the day long excursion to Saona island and Catalinita island. The Catalina island excursion is also worth while but not as good as the Saona IMO.
Be happy to give you more info if you like... let me know.

Hi all, just got back from the DR.

I went to the North Shore. Sosua Beach. (Possibly the most beautiful beach I've ever been to)

My wife and two kids and me just got the OWD cert from an SSI school. The Big Blue. Great guys! took the time to make sure everyone understood the concepts and was confident underwater. Went through checkups and detailed briefings before every dive.

Great area for multiple dives. It has 4 plateaus 40', 60' 80', 120'+
Lots of marine life, reefs and wrecks. Night diving was amazing, the same reef at night had a totally different

From there you can go do a fresh water multi cave dive, not too technical and very beatiful.

Sorry went off topic a bit, as you can tell I'm still high from the excitement.

cheers=-)

I dove La Romana/Bayahibe (widely considered the best diving in the DR) with Scubafun this March. I wrote it up as the feature trip report for the June '03 issue of Undercurrent http://www.undercurrent.org/ . It's very detailed.

Best regards.
