I recently returned from Puerto Plata, Sosua, and Cabarete. Dove a site called Rio San Juan. Lovely. You start from a fresh-water lagoon and motor to a nice reef with swim-throughs and moray hiding spots. Current was strong and wave action was push-pull-push-pull, even at 40+ feet, but I don't know if that's year-round, or unique to late December. Dove with Northern Coast Diving in Sosua. Mark and team (British) were very professional and safety-focused. Recommended.

Plenty to do in the region before/after diving, too. Surfing in Cabarete. Excellent food. Inexpensive.

Yes, diving with Northern Coast is the best if you are going to Sosua area. I dove with them when I lived in Cabarete. But sometimes the diving conditions on the north and east side might be a problem, that's why i moved to the south coast, the water is much calmer all year around
