Reef Check is offering an Expedition to the Dominican Republic in June!
Cabarete, Dominican Republic
June 20-29 2008
Join Reef Check for a 10-day EcoAction Expedition to Cabarete, Dominican Republic on the beautiful island of Hispaniola! The trip is open to both scuba and skin divers and all will have the opportunity to become certified Reef Check EcoDivers while exploring the culture and ecology of the Dominican Republic. The trip will be led by RC Dominican Republic Director Dr. Ruben Torres (Univ. Miami). Participants will learn how to assess the health of Caribbean coral reef ecosystems and will use these skills to survey reefs facing various threats from pollution and overfishing. The data will contribute to marine management in the DR.
The waters of the Dominican Republic are home to a great variety of tropical fish, corals, dolphins, and manta rays; even whale sharks and humpback whales pass through during their migration. In addition to Reef Check survey dives, there will be time for recreational diving and enjoying the culture, practicing Spanish, salsa dancing and sightseeing. Everyone will have the opportunity to explore the verdant jungles of the Choco National Park.
Accommodations will be comfortable, double- occupancy rooms at a contemporary beach-side hotel.
Cost for the 10 day trip is $US 1695 and this covers:
-Transportation to and from the airport
-Breakfast and dinner at a local restaurant daily
-7 dive trips (with equipment)
-Reef Check EcoDiver training and certification package (CD, folio binder, ID Cards)
-Day trips/cultural excursions
Please contact Reef Check Headquarters in Los Angeles to reserve your spot and/or learn more about the trip by email rcinfo@reefcheck.org or telephone (310)230-2371.
