Our trip to Dominica can best be described as an enjoyable week, squeezed between two stressful travel days.

Travel:
We flew US Airways to Antiqua, then to Dominica.
Six members of our group were unable to get on original flight, in spite of arriving almost two hours prior to departure time. The check in was terrible.
They had to fly through San Juan and ended up spending night at airport and arriving next day. Everyone got luggage, although some did not arrive until next day.
Our return flight did not begin much better. We waited in line for two hours and
as we were checking in, the system stopped issuing boarding passes.
After much stress, the entire group did make the flight off island.
At Antiqua, the attendants did assist us in making our connecting flight to US.
We had to quickly go through customs, check in with US Airways and go through
security. Some of the luggage for our group did not make this trip.

Lodging:
We stayed at Fort Young hotel in Roseau, in the ocean view rooms.
These rooms are in the original section of hotel, and some have an obsrtucted view.
The rooms are comfortable, but are nothing fancy.
They have a heavy wooden sliding door from balcony as the entrance to room.
This was a little annoying.

Diving:
We dove with Dive Dominica and enjoyed the experience.
The crew was helpful and knowledgable.
Water temp. was @ 82-83 degrees all week and visibility was 40-50 feet range.
We experienced heavy current on one day at Scott's Head Pinnacle sight.
The rest of our 12 dives were excellent and only slight current.
We saw lots of interesting sights and creatures.
We saw numerous crabs, lobster, and several seahorses.
Some of the more unusual sightings were juvenile cow fish, black frog fish,
mushroom scorpion fish and turtles mating.

Food:
Breakfast was included in package at hotel, and was good with variety of foods.
We ate at CocoRico for lunch a few times and this was a favorite.
Fort Young restaraunt is pricey, but food was good.
Le Robe Creole(sp) is close to hotel and we enjoyed this place for night meals most.
None of the places are really able to accomadate groups of eight or more.
If arriving on Saturday, be sure to stop at grocery & get some snacks, as most
everything is closed on Sunday.

We have visited Bonaire twice previously, and found the overall experience there more enjoyable. The hassels of making connections and dealing with "island time" at airports made this trip less than pleasant.

When I hear things like this I'm left wondering if damn travel these days is worth all the crap we have to endure? Travel is bad enough, but when you add all the gear we have to travel with, and all the justfiable screening we must go through, it just gets to be too much. I can see divers getting to the point that they will delay planning a trip till things in the airlines industry get a bit more quiet.
