Heading to Dominica mid June. Who knows what the baggage weight restrictions are from Sam Juan to Dominica? I thinks it's two bags with a total of 70 lbs. What about carryons? Is it just one bag? and do they check those for weight?

I flew AA Lax to Orlando this week. In LAX they measured the larger carryons and made a number of people check the larger ones. The gate agent announced "we know you are used to being able to carry on larger bags and for a long time we turned our heads to it, but now we aren't, we're going to police it and measure bags more". In Orlando they didn't, they allowed people to carry on the larger bags.

Makes it tough trying to bring dive gear and UW cameras. Even if I just bring one pair of shorts and a T shirt, I think my dive gear and camera stuff weighs more than 70 lbs!

From my experience about 1.5 years ago, they do check in Dominica and are strict with the limits. We flew in to Dominica, each carrying two 50# bags without prior knowledge of the limit leaving Dominica (lesson learned). My video gear is 49# and my dive gear plus clothing another near 50# bag. After some tense moments and moving a bunch of stuff to carry-on we finally made it on the plane. At the time, they did not offer a fee for extra weight, I'm not sure if that has changed.

Last June my checked luggage was weighed but not my carry-on. I'm headed back next Saturday so I'll report on what I experience with the airlines and such. I am taking a roller bag that will be very close to 50 lbs, a carry-on that will be very close to 20lbs and a hand held item. It will be a little tricky with scuba gear, camera gear, and clothes. Stay tuned!
