I was just advised by my tour operator that domestic Indonesian airlines have introduced a fuel levy. I have a trip this coming April, I already paid for the entire trip including the domestic air tickets in full back in December of 2007.

The tour operator says it doesn't matter that I already paid in full, I still have to pay an extra $105 for the fuel levy.

Anyone else heard about this ?

I cannot confirm that the price for fuel for aircrafts has gone up in Indonesia, but it wouldn't surprise me seen the development of the exchange rate for the Indonesian Rupiah.

The price for "normal" fuel is still the same but only because it is subsidized by the government. I talked about this issue with a friend not long ago and he was actually convinced that the price for fuel would go up within the coming months.

I can believe the price of fuel increasing and fares being raised. What doesn't make sense to me is, I already paid the operator in full over a month ago. Shouldn't my ticket have already been issued ? Plus $105 for a fuel levy seems like a lot.

I haven't heard anything about the price of fuel being increased here (though there are always rumours floating around of an imminent increase), nor about any related domestic flight fuel levy.

Have you contacted the airline itself (rather than the travel agent) for confirmation?

obviously your tour operator collected money but hasn't got your tix issued.....
price of tix should be fixed at the point where your tix is issued.

To be accurate, this is a group trip organized with a local dive shop, who is claiming the tour operator/airlines are requiring this. I called the tour operator today, they said they didn't receive the money from the dive shop until after the increase (30+ days after I payed the dive shop).

Classic he said - she said.
