Diving, along with the other necessary care you have to give one, is the main reason I don't have a dog anymore. If I want to see a dog I visit some friends of mine who have a couple German Shepards. That takes care of it for the time being. I always had an English Bulldog before. When the last one died in 2005 I had taken up diving and I didn't want to leave a dog alone in the barn (definitely not the house) for four of five days, (which is usually the extent of my diving travels), especially in winter and especially a bulldog which has enough trouble breathing and staying warm anyway. So I got a kitten. This guy can take care of himself, especially now that he is five years old. He stays in the house most of the day and sleeps. In good weather he's out all night doing his thing. You can't get him to go outside when it's cold nowadays except to do his duty which he won't do in the house even though I bought him a twenty dollar toilet. When I go for a few days during cold weather he has a place in the barn where he keeps warm under a heat lamp and I leave him plenty of dry food and a water bowl with a heating element in it so it won't freeze. When I get back he's right there sitting on a work bench, ready to take up where he left off, no problemo. I'd still really like to have another bulldog though.

We hired housesitters. It added a significant amount to the cost of a trip, but not as much as putting the dogs in a kennel (and the dogs were MUCH happier).

The amount we travel was the biggest component of our decision not to get another dog, when we lost our last one two years ago. And I have to admit that I don't mind the reduced work, or the ability to walk across the lawn without looking at my feet. Dogs are wonderful creatures, but cats are MUCH easier to live with.

There are plenty of options, I suggest this one...
Scuba Dog

That's not a scuba dog. It's a scuba rat! :D
