Today we had to put down a cat (one left to go). The cats were fairly easy to manage when we went diving. Usually we traded duties with a neighbor.

I'm sure we would again like a dog. But dogs are different. Dogs are more like small children. They need constant care. They can't be left alone for the entire day with only someone looking in on them.

What do you do with your dog when you are gone for a week, or two, diving?

Your my kind of cat person.:D

As far as my dogs go, when we take off I've let young guys from work take care of them and stay at the house, I've kenneled them, I've had them stay with friends and in turn I watch their dog, and I've had family take care of them.

I am lucky to have AMAZING neighbors who actually get mad if I even mention boarding him at the vet. They used to have dogs, but they're getting a little older and don't want the fulltime responsibility, but they love to dog sit my boy. The last time I got home from a dive trip, after hours of travel, I walked up my front walkway and this was posted on my door. How cute is that???

I agree with you that dogs are like small children. Just like small children, leave them with grandma. :)

We have dinner with my mother-in-law at least once a week. We bring the dogs with us. So they see grandma's as their second home. When we go on vacation we leave them at grandma's and they seem fine with it.

Try having Dogs and Horses. We hire a house sitter at $400 for the week. We live out in the sticks so this gives us peace of mind that someone is actually at the house and all our animals are cared for while we are gone.

Found this as well: HowStuffWorks "How could a cat scuba dive?"

IIRC the guy spend about 40K on the rig for his dog, not sure my two would even hold still for it, lol.
