Wander around enough underwater so that you get a bit of water at the bottom of your mask then do a backflip*. Using your nose for breathing or not, the water goes up it! It didn't take me long to learn to clear my mask before flipping.

*If I'm careful, I can do a front flip without snorting water.

Teehee, I was doing a handstand underwater last week and got a bunch of water up my nose and then had a difficult time getting my mask to clear cause of all the snot! What a mess. It made me realize that my mask is really leaking alot, the silicone on it has warped with age. Time for a new mask, and next time I do an underwater handstand I will clear first!

When you're doing handstands and flips and other aquatic gymnastics, breathe out through your nose to keep water from coming up it, wearing a mask or not...if you're doing it in full scuba gear, your breathing's gonna suck when you're upside down anyways, and if you're not, well, you certainly shouldn't be breathing in while you're underwater. Wearing one of those nose clips isn't enough to convince people you're a synchronized swimmer even if you're not in any other gear, the lack of professionally done hair and makeup is a dead giveaway, so no need to bother.

Breathing out through your nose when you're just diving normally keeps your mask pretty clear and can help compensate for a crappy reg that's always letting bubbles block your view. Won't do anything about your buddy's bubbles if you're hovering right above them, however.
