Of course it does, there is chlorine in most pools and that will fade all that pretty black gear, but salt isn't the best thing for your gear either.

I wonder if there are certain brands whose Delrin is better dyed and more resistant to browning - and what an ugly color it produces.

Chlorine is pretty bad for your gear. I know that alot of instructors will have a different (old) set of gear that they use in the pool and a separate (new) set for open water diving. Chlorine not only fades the color but actually can damage gear.

The pool doesn't harm your gear at all. If it is clean, clear fresh water it's good for your gear. It's the added chemicals that cause the damage. So no chemicals no problem.

I did hear tell that one local store says that it depends on the pool. That most home pools don't have that much clorine in them and it is safe for your gear. But that public pools are a different story since they use SO much more clorine. As the story was told to me, this shop owner/instructors drops his gear in his pool when he gets home from an oceandive. Leaves it overnight to wash it out.

Right - Wrong.... Heck if I know, but I soak my gear in a tub of fresh water. Of course, I don't have a pool either :)

My pool is Ozone (03) and wonderful, no chlorine. I bring gear home and dunk it in the pool. It cost up front but.. no chemical maitenance. There is an ionic deal that augments the process. My pool guy is a genious and lives pool "science". If anyone is interested, PM me. Best pool I have ever seen. The dog uses it as a giant water bowl. Terry (pool guy) says we could put fish in it....

Kim, please add this to my list of environmental efforts.

The chlorine will definitely harm your gear. Probably not as much as salt water, but rinsing your gear after you get home is the safest bet.
Frank, you've mentioned before that you regularly practice skills in a local pool. Have you noticed any decoloration or damages on your gear? And all you do is rinse it with fresh water, right?
