This is not intended as another PADI bashing thread. I agree with the Conventional Wisdom of the Group that it is not the Agency but the individual instructor.

There will be good and bad instructors in all agencies.

My guestion is, if anyone has been the victim of shoddy instruction, and also had reported this to PADI, do they follow up on reports?

Does anyone know of PADI policing it's own?

Mike

I would say that their QA is as good as other agencies. They send out questionairs and when they catch a standards violation they address it.

The problem that I have is that often what some one views as poor instruction is within standards.

PADI does have an active QA program. They will take any reports and follow up with you if they need clarification. Generally you will never hear what sort of action, if any, was ultimately taken.

Yes I know of one IDC which is/has been "policed" as you put it.

This was as a direct follow up to the Questionaire which a student filled in.

I do know more but would rather not say on here , if anyone does want more details PM me.

I have gone to PADI several times about instruction that was not up to par, and the answer I got back was unacceptable. The best thing about that is, I have my instructors in the store add a surcharge to complete the training, inconjunction with the check out fees. Yes thier instruction is that bad.

I don't quite follow - sounds like you have a dive shop. In this shop you have instructors, to whom you charge additional fees to train them before they teach for you - then you complain to PADI that you don't like the instructors that you hired? Huh?

Maybe he charges the divers more to complete their training, and then complains to PADI about the orginal instructors.

I'd be careful about assuming anything about an instructor based upon a single student.

How many referral students could be coming from a specific instructor for OW work? I wonder if they've contacted that instructor directly regarding the student's preparation?
