Does everyone hate Scuba Pro?

Scubapro's owners use the term "price value". It is priced higher, so people will think it's worth more. In Florida, you see Scubapro dealers in the rich-guy neighborhoods.

Now let's be honest, you do not see ANYONE who is in scuba retail in "the rich guy neighborhoods" unless maybe they are dropping off gear at a customer's house!

I like the product, but I hate the company, such as their way of business and policy.....

I would put ScubaPro in the same class as Zeagle or Atomic or Apeks, as far as regs go.

As far as back-inflation B/Cs, Zeagles are superior to ScubaPro, in my opinion.

As far as backplates go, Deep Sea Supply has the best, with Oxycheq trying to catch up.

As far as wings alone go, Oxycheq has the best, with DSS in close second place.

I have 5 ScubaPro Mk 20s (which are now superseded by the Mk 25s), 6 ScubaPro S600s, 2 ScubaPro Mk 2s, 2 DSS plates, 3 Oxycheq wings (50 lb, 40 lb, and 18 lb), and a Zeagle trilam drysuit remanufactured by Diving Concepts (new boots, new seals, new cargo pockets).

I would not get all of the above from ScubaPro, only the regs. ScubaPro gives you free parts for life, on these. I don't know of anyone else that does.

I had a lot of problems in the late 90's with their regs freezing on me when I taught in lake Superior. This put me against scuba pro. Now, I have a couple of things from them and they are fine. I only bought them because I got them for Key man pricing. I prefer other brands but, I think they are ok.

I would not get all of the above from ScubaPro, only the regs. ScubaPro gives you free parts for life, on these. I don't know of anyone else that does.

Ahhh... only if you buy from an Authorized SP retailer, are the original owner and keep the yearly servicing up.


Love my MK/25 S600 and Mk 17's S/600 and S/555 too.

Come and see the sights. Lake Mary Florida, home of golf professionals and other rich guys has a Scubapro dealer. The owner says he is like the BMW or Mercedes dealer. Down in Palm Beach County, there is a SP dealer in Jupiter, two miles from Tiger's house. You all knows he dives. That county has several Scubapro dealers. One dealer, not SP, looks like a gift boutique.

These are places where the price isn't marked on the gear. Their clients don't shop for price, anyway. I buy air and Nitrox from these guys, and they are always nice to me.

You mean the breathing rate and heart monitor nonsense, I've seen nothing in the literature to demonstrate that those are useful inputs to a decompression model. Flux Gate compass is a nice feature, but hardly cutting edge ... I've had one for years. Same for multiple transmitters. So what is valid "cutting edge?"

Not precisely on topic, but:

Nothing destroys my gas plan faster than a small but sustained Cd deviation.

I emailed a detailed description of a possible new product directly to an SP employee whose name I got after a couple of phone calls. -didn't even get the courtesy of a boilerplate reply. OK forget it.

Gas expanding in a reg puts out scads of ultrasonic noise. How about a wrist-mount bottom timer that also alerts me when I'm above my max planned Cd? This might be a nice biofeedback training tool.

Uncleavi, alot of regs freeze in lake superior, enviormentaly sealed was your best shot in the 90's. teaching class probably had alot to do with it, the best superior dive is go down do the dive and surface, every brand froze up on me at one point or another except the trusty aqualung.

I give scuba pro the beating of life long beatings, couldn't part with them.

The Heart rate, and breathing rate is a good feature. It may not be useful in the decompression model. But it is good for figure how thing relate. People said the same when heart rate monitors first come out with running and biking. They have their uses.

I have no sp gear, and do not like the policy. I completely agree that they are overprice. But their products are good gear. I would not go buy their product, I prefer Mares, and Oceanic. But solely because of personal preference. Gear is a personal preference. It is like some likes a Mercedes Benz while other like the Lexus. As long as the gear is well made, safe and fits properly. People should get what they want.
