I've been checking this board out a lot lately and it seems like all the conversation lies outside the GLWC because it's been a while since anyone has posted in here. I'm really excited I got my frist wet suit a 5mil full suit that should keep me pretty warm. I'm pretty excited.

I don't know your size, but a 5mm may be a bit light for up here. Most of the wetsuit divers up here that I encounter are using a two piece 7mm suit.

But, yes most of us do dive up here. It is just that we are a month or two away from when most of the sane charter operators put their boats in the water. So, we dive elsewhere until that happens.

As well, last year there were a lot of blown off charters due to the aftereffects of storms down south that carry names :banghead: .

Catch up with us a Meet and Greet and you will here more than you ever wanted to know about people diving the Great Lakes. :D

All my vips and fills are done, some guys braved the weather and got wet last weekend but the air temps are still a little uncomforatble IMHO. The local season is coming SOON though!!

Oh I know you guys dive I was just being a lil fecisious because I haven't seen any new posts up in a while. I got a two piece five mill, and I was going to get a 7 but it was sort of recommended to me by my instructor that rather then spending the extra money on a 7mill suit that the difference in cost is not worth it and that I would be better off saving up for the dry suit

I think most of us would agree with the drysuit idea. It will really extend your season.

I have a 2pc 5mm and a 2pc 7mm. I notice a BIG difference between the 2. I will not even think about bringing the 5mm to Gilboa this time of the year. I have used it at White Star late in the year, but mostly its just for the shallow mud ponds that warm up into the 60s or higher. The 7mm takes care of me down to 40.

The quarry divers might get by with a 5MM, but if you actully dive the GREAT LAKES it won't be enough. Even in July and August if you get below the thermocline you'll be in 38 degree water. Thats Chilly but doable in a 7mm. Personally, I'll stick to my dry suit.
