I was doing some online research on the Bahamas and one web site tells me the Bahamas are only 50 miles off the coast of Florida. If thats true the Bahamas are closer to us on the East coast then the Middle grounds are to us on the West coast.

I always thought it was more like 100+.

From Miami or Port Everglades it's about 56 miles to Bimini

Dam, I think I have to move the boat. 50 miles, I can dive the Bahamas for the equivelant of 2 round trips out to the Sheridan. I imagine you can anchor up in a cove or a marina somewhere over night if need be.

I hear it takes forever for customs to go through your boat and allow you on land. I wonder what the regulations are for their waters over there? If you can just go dive and not go on land?

Yeah that's the way I understand it. It is technically a different country.

4 show, Yeah the trip is a bummer though with rough seas. Never leave when the wind is out of the North. ie it took me 4 1/2 hours to get there and 1 1/2 hours to get back...shows you what a difference a couple of days make. Dunno what size of boat you got, but customs is like 150 if your ride is under 30, dbl if its over. Customs is a breeze just fill out your paperwork beforehand (they diden't even look at my boat.) and make sure you get the free fishing permit. In Bimini you can moor inbetween north bimini and south bimini, or hit the big game club and hook up to power. I think there's like 8 to 10 dive sites around Bimini, lemme know if you need gps cords for em i think i have about half.

The boats a 21 foot dual console. $150.00 to clear customes, really? dam that seems like allot of coinage to pay a visit!! If you bypass that and just go diving or hit a marina somewhere how would they know? Do you have to get a permit/Visa or something ?

and yet you can generally fly to Barbados cheaper.....what's up with that?
