Does anyone know is using a Olympus PT-23 Housing , has full TTL, or sTTL ?

It's for the Oly C-8080

I had the PT-20 , for the 5060 , and the bulk head could be changed out, but I'm looking into a PT23 housing set up, but want to able to use most strobes, like
Ikelite, Ion, Etc

Each Strobe has different control cables. There isn't an industry standard...

From my answer to your other thread:

This piece turns the Olympus housing's proprietary bulkhead into 2 nikonos connections, and contains TTL conversion circuitry. I like the redundancy it adds over a Heinrichs connector-

Any strobe that can be connected elecrically, and is compatible with the Olympus TTL Conversion Circuitry, can be used. With the hotshe cable this part is $479.

Lastly, we can replace the existing proptrietary bulkhead with a nikonos style bulkhead & TTL conversion circuitry-

Either of those two options, combined with an Ikelite 4104.6 sync cord, would yield TTL. An ikelite housing w/ the OLY-TTL conversion circuitry is competively priced when this conversion is considered, and much more robust.

I was going to say... Or you could e-mail ryan@reefphoto.com - but since he answered you ;)

I have the C-8080 and the PT-023...there is no such thing as "TTL" flash exposure control on this or any other point and shoot camera. The photo sensor is mounted above the camera lens OUTSIDE the camera so this is why they cannot call it "Through The Lens" which means that the sensor is mounted inside the camera. Now there is an "Automatic" flash exposure control which will work with the C-8080s internal flash only or with the hotshoe mounted Olympus external strobe.

Since your trip is coming up fast I would just use the C-8080/PT-023s internal flash, which is one of the best U/W internal flash diffuser setups I have seen. The flashead pops up and sits higher above the lens, this together with the PT-023s flash light box/diffuser works well for close up work.

If you have to have a strobe at this point I would consider this:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...737&is=REG&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation

from Ikelite, comes with a thick aluminum tray, a snap on diffuser and a professional heavy duty arm. Yes, the C-8080 does sync to the A35...I have this one as well.

If anything...the Ikelite A35 will also serve as your second "slave" strobe which can be fired off of your "future" main hardwired strobe.

I hardwired an Ikelite MS-50 strobe to the PT-023 by enlarging the Olympus bulkhead connector hole and installed an Ikelite 5 pin bulkhead connector, the C-8080 fires this strobe each and every time.

There are a number of products based on the http://heinrichsweikamp.net/blitz/indexe.htm converter.

Some require a changed bulkhead others use a special sync cable to take the oly pinout to what is required by the strobe.

One of these is produced for Divervision and sold by http://www.uwdigitalcamera.com/
I have not researched if it is sold elsewhere.

There are a long list of supported strobes on the heinrichs site. Some seem to work better than others.

There must be a US supplier

Thanks both for your help.

I couldn't descide, and I was going crazy, wanting a strobe set-up for the trip.

I bought the Ikelite DS125 today. package deal , with the EV Manual Controller for now, with the deluxe arm, etc.

I thought I would just use the manual controller, untill I decide If I want to swich over to a Ikelite housing, which then I would have E-TTL.

But I'm now watching a auction on ebay, for the Ikelite housing.

But at least for now, I'm all set, camera, strobe, UW case, 4 gig memory card, deluxe handle, everything ready to go for the trip ;)

FLTEKDIVER,

Don't forget to order an Ikelite tray.

It's always one thing more...

OOps. I just noticed "deluxe handle!"

Thanks for the heads up. That was why I really didn't go with inon, or any of the sync strobes

i plan on using two strobes, thanks for your help ;)
