I've worn them in the pool for years--just to keep water from going in farther than I'd like, being prone to swimmer's ear. I don't wear them with my hood in the ocean. The ad says...."vented plug reduces abrupt pressure changes from reaching the sensitive eardrum which contributes to easier equalization". I notice no difference, but am a poor example as I have never had equalization problems. I'm not sure about the mechanics of this. If you're equalizing effectively (slow descent if needed, etc.) why would there be abrupt pressure changes? Why would having anything in your ear with a pin hole in it help? Would it not be best to have your ears completely open to equalize?
