I recently went to my doctor with ear pain. I had been getting pain in my ears for the last two weeks of diving. After visiting my doctor, he found I had a blood blister in my ear and we suspect that the plugs may have caused the blister. The best guess is that perhaps that are ill-fitting and maybe rubbing the ear canal as I am equalizing.

Does anyone know if this would indicate if the plugs were too small or were they too big? I had size XL plugs.

I'd discuss why you're using the plug with the doctor and also take a couple sets to the next appointment to see which fit your ear canal. Does the doctor suspect they are too small or does the doctor suspect they are too big?

He only felt that they did not fit properly. I didn't think to ask him if he thinks they are too big or too small. I will try on the XXL. If I remember right, the XXL doesn't fit at all, so that will make choosing the Large an easy decision.
