The piston will rotate a negligible amount. The direction may be random?
There is nothing to prevent the piston from rotating. So it will rotate. It will not spin like a top.

What prevents the moon from rotating?

Movement is caused by force. Movement is opposed by friction.

... and the moon actually rotates ...

Changes are caused by force and friction is, apparently, a force.

Please explain. Don,t keep me on the dark side. Are you refering to the rotation in relation to the earth as the orientation to the sun remaines fixed?

Yes, friction is a force that can prevent movement even when a force act to place a body in motion.

Sorry for the delay, Is the second Newton's law of motion: "A body at rest will remain at rest, and a body in motion will remain in motion unless it is acted upon by an external force". So if friction can stop motion, then it is a force.

For what concerns the moon, actually it rotates but showing almost the same face to the Earth, not to the sun. It rotates on its axis and around the earth with more or less the same angular speed.

Yes, at least during full moon (or should be fool moon ?) :)

you still dive with regs using a timing belt? ;D

Do you intend d(r)ive belt ? Is a double use belt - just adding or removing a single letter can be used either for diving or driving
