On this note, I have a small princeton with a halogen bulb in my BC pocket. I just got a UK Light Cannon HID for $180!! That's $70 less than retail. Woo-hoo!!

Don't buy anything until you feel a light would enhance your diving experience. I dive in warm ocean water and typically carry a small pocket light to look under ledges, etc. But, until you feel comfortable with your diving and want to look in those places, don't bother worrying about lights. Eventually, if you decide to buy, figure out what your goals/needs are going to be and buy accordingly. For most people, a hefty, expensive light is not necessary. For the rest, it may be very necessary. Bottom line: no need whatsoever to rush into a light purchase.

I say yes to dive lights for day and night... for many reasons... both enjoyment and safety

Enjoyment to bring out colors at depth and for peering into cracks, crevices and holes on the reef or wreck.

Safety for one simple purpose... if you are somehow lost at sea (and I realize this could be a very rare occurrence,) that light could save your life. For the $20 - $30 a back up light costs... it's value added insurance in my opinion
