It wasn't meant in any way against instructors. My point was here at SB, Instructors have a place to go that no one else can chime into, as to get real issues dealt with without the rifraf and games of an open forum. As far as being unclear, I figured between the post in general discussion and suggestions my intent was quite clear. It appearantly was for a few. I'm sorry it was confusing for a PRO such as yourself. Hopefully I can spell it out a little clearer for you. I was merely looking for a forrum that new pros could open forum without the rifraf/games of an open forum, without having to clutter the instructor to instructor forum.(which we do not have access too) I guess my point in saying, "instructors can have a different outlook" was that an instructor that has been teaching for a long time may have forgotten some of the awkward moments they encountered while coming up the ranks. Also, with the years, some instructors I have interviewed(yes interviewed, I don't believe all instructors are for everybody, and if you don't mesh it just aint gonna work) have become cold and callus. I'm sure niether of these issuesare your case. I was not trying to exclude instructors from the discussions, merely thought some of the issues a new pro may have may be a little trivial for an instructor and their busy lives.
Again, I'm very sorry if you felt I was trying to exclude you as an instructor. I guess I just thought a place that strives so dearly to help new OW divers, would also be open to the idea of a DM/DMC to DM/DMC forum, for whatever reason. I'm sorry you feel differently.

Don't misunderstand me as well - I wasn't feeling excluded, just at a bit of a loss as to how you were delineating the group you were targeting from the rest (I was not aware of the other thread you posted). I was a bit confused also in that DMs do have access to the I2I forum (which I joined originally as a DM before I became an instructor) where many of the issues you describe have been discussed in the past. That aside, if it is something that will be of benefit, then by all means.

I think the solution would be for more DMs to start threads in the instructor forum regarding DM topics like diver supervision, assisting instructors in pool sessions, etc.

Cheers.

That would be great, but, in the interest of DMC's that have no access to the I2I page, that wouldn't help us help our instructors, or our pursuit of a common goal.(Helping new students deal with issues that instructors just don't have time for, considering time, and the interest of the masses) It would also clutter/open a page set up for actuall PROS.
Looking forward to the day that I may also join in that private page, with no BS!
I mean, what is the real issue here?? On a board with as many pages as this one(some hardly ever used) what is one more that may benefit someone. I'm kinda missing the problem?

Maybe, instead of asking WHY, how about asking WHY NOT?

Come on Guys, were just about there! We could use the support of a few more. We have 10, but more would GREAT.

At this time they are considering the page. We need to come up with a criteria for access to the private page. Come on guys/gals, there has to be a way we can do this that will keep the SB staff happy andcontent that we are not just starting another BS page! Let's do this!

I was a Divemaster Long before I became an Instructor and will always think of myself as one.

I do have a problem with this though ".(Helping new students deal with issues that instructors just don't have time for, considering time, and the interest of the masses)".

I know that DM's should be able to help students with issues but an Instructor that doesnt have time for one of his students should be flogged.

Good luck on your quest.

I'd tell you about one incident where I posted a clean legitimate post in the I2I forum and had an instructor imediatly reply to me and I'll try to quote him, "Why are DMs even permitted to post here", because it is a closed area I will not link to it or cut and paste it, it would be improper.
Needless to say he was bombarded by replies of support fro DMs from other instructors, as they praised DM's and the service we provide the industry.

I don't know if there is a need for a "new" area, but maybe some changes to the guide lines of the old one and rename it "Pro 2 Pro" as was suggested by one of the instructors in the above mentioned thread.

There's no accounting for the occasional narrow minded person - this happens in just about any group. But a change of name of the forum certainly is a good idea. Pro 2 Pro is nice, or just Dive Professionals or something to that effect. Afterall, a DM is no less a professional than an instructor. Duties and responsibilities may differ in certain areas, but just as important in the training process.
