That's not really the intent of Equipment Specialist. You might get that out of the course but it's a unlikely. You should come out of the cours with enough knowledge to do some quick field repairs.

As far as servicing regs, even if you took a course on that I wouldn't recommend doing it unless you are willing and able to:

a) service enough regs to keep your skills honed and
b) pony up some serious cash for the right equipment.

If you are really interested in working on your regulator start by grabbing a copy of the bible:

Equipment Specialist would be a class for me if it would teach me to work on my regulator. Being female, I've always been averse to taking things apart without instructions.

Thanks, James, but I have that book. My Deco instructor suggested it. Ideally, you are supposed to be able to take your 2nd stage apart underwater and remove any debris which may be causing it to freeflow. No one has ever shown me how to do this and my regulator isn't in the book. Maybe I shouldn't sweat this....

I just had a chap who is a PADI MD inquire as to what a SAC rate was and how to determine it.

And other than fullfilling your constant need to bash PADI, what does this add to the conversation?

I took this class - I learned how to take apart my reg (2nd stage) and clean it out. Also general equipment care/maintenance of all my gear. good class.

If you want to repair your reg I would take the Class provided by the Manufacturer.

Do both, Master Scuba Diver and Divemaster!

That's the skill I need: the take apart the 2nd stage and clean it out. No, I don't want to work on my regulator. :D

Hello all,

I need help!! I'm one specialty away from Master Diver. Is DM worth the money and comitment? I have a wife ( with C card but will not dive any more) and 2 kids (5 and 3) who dont dive obviously. I want to dive more and use DM as an excuse but DM sounds like too much workand money for my current situation. Plus, do I wanna work or play when I dive?????

Brett

IS it worth the money?

Maybe there's a bit missing from this class (oh, it's not a class..ooops :D ) , or should a "Master Diver" be required to know a lot more?

Not really bashing PADI, just their "MD" card and the "prestiege" and knowledge that should go with the title of a MD. You can actually "get one step closer to PADI Master Scuba Diver" by taking the "Double-Dome Distinctive Specialty Course" (HydroOptix Mask). :shakehead

As I said before, "you'll gain some respect in some circles and be a laughing stock in others."

You can have the PADI claque respect you while some others giggle a little (just a little) or you can take a different tack, one that the PADI claque would wonder at, but that some others would say "well done" to (e.g., a fundies class, an LA County Advanced Course, a NAUI Master Diver class, etc.).

As my Mom always taught me, you're judged (at least in part) by the company you keep.
