Hello all,

I need help!! I'm one specialty away from Master Diver. Is DM worth the money and comitment? I have a wife ( with C card but will not dive any more) and 2 kids (5 and 3) who dont dive obviously. I want to dive more and use DM as an excuse but DM sounds like too much workand money for my current situation. Plus, do I wanna work or play when I dive?????

Brett

That's really a decision that's truly up to you. I love diving and sharing the experience with divers getting certified. It's also a great way to meet new people and make some new friends. :)

What do you want to accomplish out of your diving? Once you answer that then you have your answer to your post.

I'm fighting with that answer. I live in Atlanta, GA. Not much good diving around here. I have an good contact in West Palm Beach. Family is a major factor. I want best for all

You can do as freelance DM for weekend dive work and fun.

The DM training builds lot of confidence in a diver.
I work as DM on weekends just for fun and don't get paid anything, but my dives are free and I'm happy about that.
DM means you are a professional Member and pay you annual membership fees and also have professional liability insurance for working as DM in most places.
As you have two kids to support its better to stick to the regular job and dive for fun.

Why not both? I just finished up my MSD last month.. (been diving for about 17 years) and started the PADI DM process at the beginning of the summer - with any luck I'll be done by the end of August.

Eventually I would like to become tech DM or instructor down the line. I really get a kick out of introducing new people to SCUBA and would love to teach someday. (Preferably at a resort in the carribbean!)

I'm planning on DMing in the short term mainly for the free airfills, free entries into scuba parks, and to keep current/improve the skills. Not to mention meeting some cool new people and getting some more dive buddies.

Anyway, that's my 2psi..

D.

Good luck!Your desire will come true... Daylonious

It really depends on what you want. If you want to work with classes (more or less for free) or go on to instructor, then DM is a good place to start. On the other hand if you just want to be a better diver, my advise it to do neither. Instead find some good dive buddies and dive. If cost is a real issue, plan on spending at least $1000 on DM, not to mention a lot of time. I just finished my DM a few weeks ago.

Have a look at the NAUI Master Diver course.

Get the Master Diver cert first. You are only one cert away from it and you'll be more knowledgeable when you do go to DM.
