Hey everyone,

I've been looking at cameras for diving. I've been watching as many videos as I can. However it's hard to tell if the videos are legit or not. Too many seem like ads for one or the other.

I'll be diving in my local quarries mostly, and some area rivers. I want my friends to be able to see my diving. Plus there will be times it will be helpful with work.

I'm looking at the insta 360 ace pro 2 and the dji osmo action 5. I'll not do a gopro as I've had issues in the past with them. Plus I'll not support a company that requires a subscription to use basic editing features like gopro does. Especially an underwater feature that's essential for my needs.

Has anyone used one or the other or better yet both of them? Any pros and cons?

I like some of the features of the dji like the battery life and the deeper waterproofing. The depth feature is a cool thing if staying shallow. Just wish it worked in the case at deeper depths.

Matthias Lebo has some interesting videos regarding this. He seems to be scuba/underwater focused.

I'm trying to get impartial feedback as too many seem like ads fir them

From everything that I've read and watched, I think the DJI fits my needs best so we're going to buy one of those. The only real complaint I've seen on the DJI is that their app is not on the google play store and you need to sideload it from their website.

Interesting wonder why that is?

This is one of the best videos I've found so far. Matthias is an avid diver and apparently one of the most respected around. James with divers ready gave him a shout out. Id initially dismissed the video because of the accent but he is spot on and knows what he's talking about.

Thanks for posting. Seems like they're all great, which is comforting. I'll stick with the DJI though, as it's also the cheapest here.

I'm upgrading from GoPro 9 and I returned the Ace Pro 2, because of an issue with presets. I got used to using presets with GoPro and in the Ace Pro 2 the presets are not usable in the dive housing. The DJI Action 5 Pro has a nice menu system with easy to use presets in dive housing and that's what I'm sticking with.

Having said that I think image quality between the two is similar with slightly better color correction in the Ace Pro 2, but I can always correct the white balance in PowerDirector as I've done with GoPro.
Ace Pro 2: slightly larger view screen, and slightly better build quality of the dive housing. No front screen. More complicated menu system and looks less well organized. Battery life is not as good as the Action 5. Color is 8 bit
DJI Action 5 Pro: nice to use menu system. Better battery life, internal storage of 47BG. Lighter camera with a front screen as well handy for selfie. 10 bit color

I went from several GoPros to AcePro1 and now to AcePro2.
@Hatul : I guess we`ve encountered the same issue. When switching into dive mode, a prompt is coming up and asking to enable underwater mode. However you can`t confirm the prompt when in dive case....

My short term work around is to put the cam in underwater mode before it goes into the dive case. For longterm, I hope they fix it with a firmware update.

My impression was that Insta360 did not think through how the menu system will be used in the dive case. I found it impossible to use Presets in the dive case. The menu system in the DJI Action 5 is very nice and usable in the dive case.

The one feature the Ace Pro 2 has that I reallly like is the lossless 2:1 zoom which works in the dive case. The DJI has no zoom once in the dive case. I'm experimenting with a handheld macro lens from Backscatter.
