I was just reading some of the other posts on swallowing air and alternobaric vertigo. They both sound like possibilities. I do swallow air often as it's the only way I can equalize. I also swall air as a way to rehydrate my mouth when its dry but I do and can burb easily to release the gas. I will make sure I do it often now. That may explain the vomiting but then what about the dizziness? That leads me to the possibility of alternobaric vertigo. I do get dizzy and a couple of times I thought I was going to faint. But most of the time, its just a little dizzy. There's a possibility that I am coming up too fast but my ears don't hurt and I feel like I'm equalized. Still, I'll watch out for that. Would a doctor be able to determine it's alternobaric vertigo just by checking out my ears?

I found alternobaric vertigo to clear as soon as I broke the surface. I only experienced it once but it was severe, i.e. intense spinning sensation. Here's a bit about it http://www.scuba-doc.com/vert.htm I'm suspect that it's the cause, but it's possible. From my limited understanding, including a talk with DAN, it normally clears when you surface. I'd give DAN a call and get their opinion.

Diving this past weekend, near Owen Sound. Water temp of 42F. I ended up buddied up with the buddy from hell. http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=29669

While dealing with him, I had a flood of cold water enter the right side of my hood, causing immedite vetigo and nausea and the immediate ejection of my breakfast through my reg.
Probably not part of the nausea on ascent, but certainly an effect to be aware of.

You are right. It is different from nausae on ascent. Basically your vestibular system (which control balance) also resides by your ear and sudden hot or cold water in one ear can certainly affect your balance. One reason I gave up on diving 40F water and now dive only in tropical water
