I'd be well into building this thing if I could just find a scrap of 4" PVC. I found that HD does carry 4" but I don't know what I'll do with the left over 9 feet. It's not that I mind paying $20, but I don't really want to send the rest to the landfill.

I already got all my supplies from Mcmaster.com except for the Orings. I ordered the wrong ones.. DOH!

Bobby to bad you don't live closer to me or I would hack off a piece for ya. Try going into a local plumbing supply store and asking if they have any damaged pieces that you can have. Just make sure its solid and not cellular core. I first got the cellular and did not think about it until I cut it and it was to late...

Right. Good call on the cellcore stuff. I got excited that Lowes carried 5-footers in 4" but I noticed the "not for pressure applications" stamped on the side. I'll try a plumbing supply and if I can't find any shorts... I'll breakdown and buy the 10 footer at Depot.

you can always ask them to cut the piece...They should sell it by the foot, not by the piece

Not in my town they won't. Certain length based items are priced by the linear foot such as crown moulding, wire, and hose. The rigid pipe in the plumbing section is priced by total length. Even if you buy black pipe and want it trimmed and rethreaded, you'll pay for the full length. Maybe it's different per region.

I've been following the posts eagerly and I've also read other DIY cam housing projects in the internet and I'm convinced that I should make one. Anybody know how much Mcmaster-Carr charges for fabrication of the "top hat" perspex lens. It's difficult to source fabrication jobs from where I am. Thanks.

Thanks 426Scuba. But it says "We do not accept emails requesting price quotations. Prices are provided by the software download" on their website. And when I tried to install their software (CAD I think) it doesn't work in my Mac. I'll look for other fabricators in Google.
