To make my own tank bangers I use any sort of rubber banding or tubing.
Heck, you could probably use elastic from the fabric section at WalMart.
I drilled a hole through an old golf ball, fed the rubber through the hold I drilled, tied both ends of the rubber banding together and voila, a homemade tank banger.
The best thing is, it has a different yet very distinct sound than a store bought banger that's made from a very hard ball.
More of a DONK sound vs a DINK sound.
