I think it's for redundancy in case one of the other cans starts to free flow. :confused:
 
The guy who wrote the text on that page is nothing but a blowhard with his own set of preconceptions and biases. If you click on "Contact the Editor" to investigate the source of the endless strokaphilic spewage regarding things DIR (nearly all of which is patently erroneous), he has this to say:

"My one exception to welcoming all links is that bottomless pool of ignorance and stupidity known as scubaboard.com. Don't bother making or following links from there - they will all be bounced away."

A guy who has an ego to match his photos of tanks strapped together with cans in between them and who posts ignorant statements on a website in a manner so as to trumpet his bozonity proudly is someone that new divers should be able to identify and ignore.

Rule #1 is Don't dive with unsafe divers.
Rule #2 is Don't listen to unsafe divers.

Rule #2 applies here in spades...
