Getting my Advanced Open Water. Going to Yukon, Ruby E, and Kelp forest. Can't wait to get back in the water. Anyone going on boat trip to these three the 25th of August??? And yes I know it's not much of a c-card, but it is on the way to DM so...

Ever been on that boat? I haven't. Looks pretty nice. Only been on one boat trip here in CA, moved back about 9 months ago. That one went to Coronado Islands. Nice easy diving.

Yep. Nice folks. You'll have a good time. Bottom temperatures will be a bit on the chilly side - figure on the low 50's. Vis has been all over the place recently, everything from 40+ to less than 10. Log on to www.divebums.com a couple of days before your trip and you should see a trip report or two for wreck alley which will give you an idea of the conditions.

Have a great trip.

Just to warn you, the Ruby E can be pretty nasty- very violent surge. Last time I was on it I was being blown back and forth across its entire beam- 10 divers total, only two of us made it to the wreck, and even then couldn't stay together because of the surge- would end up hitting eachother if we did(no problem, were both solo divers and equipped accordingly). We were litterally being blown back and forth 20 feet. Make sure everything on you is straped down tight so no hoses or gear can get caught up on anything down there.

I guess i was pretty lucky. My favorite dive was the Ruby E. and there was really no surge at all. The dive was really smooth. It looks like a disney boat with all the strawberry anenomes on it. It was by far (for me) more interesting than the Yukon. The kelp forest was really nice there (3rd dive of the day after the Ruby e). I was able to enjoy two spanish nudibrachs mating. :) Have fun

an external wreck class on the Yukon on the 30th. All of my ocean diving has been that warm clear Carribean stuff.

Really looking forward to being in the Pacific. Went dry about a year ago, but it's all been in fresh water.

socaldesertdiver...that's almost an oxymoron.

Most people associate SOCal with the beach. But living in New Mexico, I can relate to being a desert diver. You make due with what you can get.

San Diego is just a short Southwest Airlines frequent flyer pass away. And being a Sailor (real wind, not power) I get double my fun.

I have to travel to Yuma, AZ on business every week for the next couple of months. I can pick the days of the week I have to be there, and it's the same drive from PHX or San Diego, so guess which I'm choosing!!!
