update:
received the two aqualung 5lb pouches and they do install upside down very nicely.
FWIW, I couldn't fit 5lbs of sea pearls in them, only 4. I don't have any 5lb solid weights, but I doubt they would fit either.
 
I dive with releasable weight the vast majority of the time, although depending on my gear configuration the weight belt may only have five or six pounds. I always keep it below 16, as over that it is bad on my back. I do occasionally dive without "ditchable" weight, however I was trained that my rig could be ditchable weight if necessary. This turned out to be funny in Rescue class, as the instructor made me ditch my rig twice, because he didn't see me the first time while glancing away watching everyone else struggling with their kit.

I have ditched my weightbelt twice, once before BC's on the surface, which may not have been necessary, and later once at depth which saved my a**.
