Planning a trip in March, I want to see the Mermaids and I thought it would be nice to dive the Spring while I'm there.

Where can I rent tanks/weights?

What mm suit is needed?

I'll probably look for a buddy closer to time.

Is it worth it to spend the night to get up early or is it fine to drive in from Orlando?

Fairly certain diving is not permitted and hasn’t been for a number of years. If you need a shop near there, I highly recommend DiverCity AquaVertical.

I'm pretty sure that it is a permit only site.

The only diving possible on the Weeki Wachee River is Hospital Hole. Nothing fancy, giant hole that goes down to about 130-140ft. Accessible by boat only.

Have been kayaking there three times in last two months. No swimming / exiting your kayak (State Park law but frequently violated) and it’s too shallow (IMO) for a meaningful dive; You’d spend a lot of time dodging kayak paddles.
