My Dad was on Hms Sikh which was sunk in September 1942. He survived but died when I was only 12. I saw an Internet posting which says that the wreck is divable but can't find anything out about it. Does anyone out there know anything?

Hi there Welshgirl50, from a Welsh man over in Asia !!

I used to work in Libya so am always interested what's going on there, and as a starter for your thinking about diving in Libya and Tobruk - maybe worth looking at and contacting Welcome to Arebi Diving Center I don't know the guys there, but their website is active.

Also there is a wreck diving section of this forum where you may want to place a post and seek info.

If all else fails, I have a good mate from Manchester working over in Tripoli, and if need be am sure I could get him to ask around about diving in Tobruk ?

Cheers

Thanks for that. I had seen that the position was noted somewhere but am trying also to find the depth. There is also a wreck site somewhere run by a couple of Dutch blokes . Lucky you in Asia bet you get more diving in than I do, I'm in Kent(!) and my 13 yr old can barely get in the water without collapsing with cold!

Welshgirl50, out of my "used to work in Libya" interest and as my Dad is ex naval - I had a search around but couldn't find depth of the Sikh, though those coordinates to my checks indicate it's 'just offshore' Tobruk - but anyway, I'll keep digging around and if I come up with anything useful I'll let you know.

A lot of internet sites I found led me to Malta where seemingly the Sikh was in a convoy that left Valetta, and another of the ships was sunk close to Valetta. This Website also mentions HMS Sikh but alas lacks the exact details you seek Untitled Page

Worth maybe you contacting Shipwrecks of Egypt as with Tobruk & Egypt being next door to each other maybe they'll have contacts ?

Kent ...Brrr ... here in Taiwan the water has been 27 ~ 29 C for the last few months, so diving in a shortie or just trunks perfectly OK, though 'summer season' is on the way out now and water temps up North of the island starting to drop into the low 20's ... so it's time for the 3mm wetsuit !!

Keep well
