When packing your drysuit amongst your other gear, put your boots, gloves, hood etc. under the armpits of your suit. It will provide support and prevent your zipper from kinking if there is something accidentally placed on top of your bag.

Yes, most rental tanks will be AL-80's but you can take the time to learn good gas management, breathe slowly and methodically...control your gas consumption. If you want a larger tank see if they have steel 100's.

Air valves have two positions: ON and OFF. The land between these two positions is mined and will blow your foot off if you spend too much time in it or wander off while traversing it.

If you are diving where you *need* a light, then *always* use fresh batteries in both your primary and spare light. ( Nothing like being in 80', zero vis, 8*C water and both lights stop working because of the cold temperature. )
When boat diving, make it a practise for you & your buddy/s to meet at the anchor at the begining of the dive. This way you can check to make sure the anchor is set correctly (I have found it slowly dragging over the sand a number of times) & it also provides a chance to catch your breath & relax a bit (from the exertion of suiting up on a hot day, etc) which will save tank air & lengthen your dive.

No Matter how many times you dive a site. Always remember to review your dive profile/plan with your buddie. Never dive alone.
Never be afraid to call your dive. It's better to cut a dive short or not dive at all if you're having a problem. Get out of the water (if already in) and try to solve the problem for your next dive because you want to be sure there will be a next dive.

Last weekend me and a buddy were rushed to hit the water, we havent dove in 3 weeks because i moved to a island here in the middle of the canadian waters,
We hit up the dive shop, he rents the standard scuba package,
we hit the water 45 minutes later, somthing just dosnet feel right, so we went down about 25 feet then we notice something is just wrong. He dosnet have a regulator, aw geese the shop forgot to pack them. Always check your gear before you hit the water.

just a little 12:15am oh my god I cant sleep and have to work in a couple hours humor.
