I am new to ScubaBoard, and am very happy to have found you guys. You seem to be a fountain of good info.
By way of introduction, I started diving in 1989, and have done 35 dives, most of them in the Bahamas and the Caribbean (primarily in Cozumel and the Virgin Islands). I've also done a bit of diving in British Columbia, in the Sechelt Rapids, and in San Diego.
I would have loved to have dived more, but the constraint has always been financial -- because I live in Washington DC, and diving means traveling.
That brings me to my question: has anybody heard of good diving in North Carolina, right off the beach?
I remember that the instructor who certified me back in 1989 (Mark Wilkinson was his name) showed me a video he had taken of a reef of sorts, which he said was right off the beach somewhere in North Carolina.
I don't remember much about the video, other than the fact that there seemed to be a lot of marine life. The instructor talked about being excited to find the site, because it meant good diving within driving distance of Washington, and without need to charter a boat. As far as I know, the instructor no longer lives in the area, and I haven't found any evidence of such a dive site in N.C. -- every worthwhile site seems to be a couple of hours off the coast.
Any thoughts?
