at least in humans. No ethical way to do real tests.

In animals, there were some tests and the general idea is that (if you can extrapolate to humans) it really isn't a good idea.

Lots of variables that (as Drew says) haven't been tested, but just thinking about it should be scary to an expectant mother. Gas under pressure will result in a different mixture to gases in the blood going to the fetus. The overall pressure on the body may have an impact on a delicate fetus. Chances of injury are vastly complicated. I would at least talk to your OB and see what he/she says. (I will check with my daughter, who is an OB, and see what her thoughts are)

It is recommended that children do not dive....I would think diving while pregnant would not be any better at all

I've been doing a lot of reading, and I am agreeing that diving and pregnancy do not mix. I've heard that in the first three months okay, but not after that...but I would think the first few months would be critical months. BUT...I'm not a doctor.

Thanks for everyone's input.

there are some great posts by BillP & Dr. Deco that really make you think.

If you are pregnant, then congrats!!!!! No matter how much research you will read (even if they had some specific for this), you will decide to do what you feel is right.

I did 2-4 dives a weekend all the way through my 5th week (didn't know I was pregnant). But looking back, I have to admit that my body was telling me to stop. I was a complete air hog where I had never been before and got really tired after (and somethimes during) the dives. Now that I am finishing my 1st trimester, I can honestly say I am glad I stopped diving when I did. There are so many things to know and think about when it comes to the health of your baby that continuing to dive just isn't worth the added stress.

I know there are some people who say ...this woman dove throughout her pregnancy or this one continued to dive throughout the 1st trimester and their babies were fine. It is your choice but if you are already asking questions about it, I'd venture to say you have already made up your mind to do anything to ensure the health of your baby.

Good luck in your pregnancy!

Does anybody actually do a search BEFORE posting questions?

Not to deter anyone from asking (afterall, the only stupid question is one that is unasked) but this topic has been discussed at length several times before in this forum as well as in the Medical area.

So please, do a search BEFORE you post a question. Save yourself some time!

No offense taken, BUT you do NOT have to answer submariner. Like you said a stupid question is one that is not asked.
