Hi Everyone. New to the board but not to diving.

I will be in Peru and Bolivia in the middle of Sept until the middle of Oct. My trip starts 1 hour south of Lima. I am looking for any information on diving that area.

However, my real interest lies a little higher than this. I have found that there is a submerged Temple in Lake Titicaca (a little over 13,000 ft). Lake Titicaca is sacred and yet there was a dive expedition that had over 200 dives on it. I am looking for anyone with information about possible dive operations that will provide gear up there, and if it is even legal/acceptable to dive there.

Thanks for any and all information

Steve

There are two dive shops in Lima, Peru. The first is mostly commercial diving, hard hat style, the second is called AquaSport, Av. Conquistadores No.805, San Isidro, Lima Peru telephone: 221-1548 contact Luis Vasquez (speaks English). e-mail aquasport1@terra.com.pe and website Aqua Sport.

Luis is a master gas blender and instructor for OC and RB. If you need info. he is your best contact in Peru.

Good Luck.

Hi although from Yellowknife I live in Peru a lot , miraflores to be exact. I have searched and searched for diving there often traveling on spec and rumour, only thing I did find was in Callao and was told that unless puking in your reg is your idea of fun not to bother. The water around Lima is wretched. However in Ecuador there is a outfit called exploramar diving they are great! Michel the general manager is a PADI course director and a marine biologist. Also a really great guy. I dove with then in Puerto Lopez with Giant Mantas , fantastic. I really recommend them and Michel speaks english in case you no habla espanol. There head office is in Quito though if you in Lima you will need to fly to Guayacil ( you can bus but been there done that dont) and from Guayacil they will send a driver ( 50USD each way). You can deals on Lan airlines if you book in advance and stay over a Sunday and the savings can be quite substantial. Prices are good and the town is nice and full of fresh seafood. I can't say enough about this operation. 5 stars out of 5. But in the 3 years I have been in Peru thats about it. Michel has mentioned he would like to look into starting a dive shop there and the beaches up near Tumbes are fantastic and you can see reefs but nothing yet.
good luck and have fun Dave

Thanks all for your help. My trip takes me from Lima Peru to LaPaz Bolivia with a few days stop at Lake Titicaca. It sounds like Diving Lima may be out and finding out information about Lake Titcaca will be on this trips agenda. If possible, go back as an expedition.

Unfortunately Ecuador is not on the itinerary.

Next expedition will be to dive the underwater city 400 km from Shanghai near Hangzou in April. Maybe Lake Titcaca and Ecuador can be after that.

If anyone is interested, please let me know.

Steve
