"Travel warning"!
Southern Thailand and Western Mindonao in Philippines.
Travel insurance is the bare minimum because it does not bail you out immediately. I had known two cases where the insurance purchased outside the host country were not acceptable. It was the plastic with good credit which came to rescue.

Today I took the slow train from Nakhon Si Thammarat to Yala, B50.00 for a third class hard seat. I knew Southern Thailand is sparsely populated but did not expect to be so green. Very scenic journey. However, upon reaching HatYai junction, heavily armed soldiers came abroad and they took video/photo back and forth in every compartment. They also shown some interest on certain personal belongings but I was left alone. From then onward until I departed at Yala, armed soldiers were to be present in some of the bigger stations eg. Pattani.

@diveUAE
I am pretty sure your travel insurance will not cover those 3-4 Southern Provinces in Thailand.
I will leave my computer and mask behind on a short trip to BKI in early Nov. Thank you for your description of the sites. I will save those few hundred of ringgits on something else.

I was there, at the bubbles dive resort in summer 2015, with water at 31° C ! Nice but simple, remote and isolated resort with absolutely nothing to do except diving.
Turtles nesting on the beach was nice, and the only interest of the place.
Diving was ok, but really not the best in the region, viz was bad and reefs in bad conditions. I saw a guitar shark nice memory.
Not sure i would go back again...
