NDL? F02 I know.

NDL=No Decompression Limit ;)

The reasons that people diving 30% (what olympus banks) would come up at around the same time as those diving 21% are:

1) Increased air consumption over those diving 21%
2) Very conservative profile/computer
3) Diving an air profile/computer for safety

When on the coast of NC .... go Nitrox. You do get a longer NDL plus it makes you very cool :dazzler1:

Yah - what he said - and Dale KNOWS cool...... :crafty:

If Hatteras isn't the best place for a new diver to dive then I'll take all of your words. I would like to do more beach dives then boat dives (for $$ reasons) somewhere in North or South Carolina. Any suggestions?

Ok I didn't take into consideration the 100's and their extra capacity "bottom Time". Because I have mainly dove al 80's. I'm getting
:16 min @130' on 30EAN
:10 min @130' w/ air
:18 min @120' on 30EAN
:13 min @120' w/ air.
Thats :05 - :06 min extra

Think everyone is forgetting about inshore diving in the range of say 70' to 80' or LESS. These dives are cheaper at around $50 or so. There are charters out of Morehead/Beaufort http://www.discoverydiving.com/ or Wilmington http://www.aquaticsafaris.com/ area that could get you to some inshore sites. The Indra is as easy as it gets!!

I last dove with them in october and have always found them to be nice people. They could also give you info on some shore dives in the area.
I go to Hatteras every year in october and have as of yet been able to have calm enough surf or either it was 0 vis to do shore dives. On the other hand it tends to be alot calmer and clearer in the summer when your going and you should be able to do the boiler wreck. If you have never done a shore dive in NC you WILL need a buddy and fishing line is a huge problem, just a word of warning from having done shore dives in other parts of NC.

To cut to the chase and say what I am REALLY thinking. IMHO this gal has got to "cut her teeth" on something. Like the trip planned for April. To say that she should not dive the deep stuff is true and good advice, but there are shallower dives to be done out of Hatteras that are easy enough for a new diver. I know because I have done them with new divers on the boat. Still I think they should be done with a experienced buddy. To be honest I find shore dives to be much harder than a boat dive. Also I/we dont know HER comfort level or skills.
Just dont rule out Hatteras yet, give Amy a call.

This is my experience not advice. I did my OW 10/02/04. I immediatly signed up for AOW which included NAV., DEEP, NIGHT, and did my Nitrox 11/20/04. I practised a lot at Lake Jocasee and dove to 131' on 10/17/04 dive #18. My first Ocean dive was 10/31/04 @ 78' off of charleston dive # 20. I have since did 5 more ocean dives @ 45' - 110' and have speared on most of these. I presently have 31 dives to date.
Jesstotheocean, if you would like to join us here at Lake Jocasee anytime you are welcome. We are diving this Sunday @9:00 AM off the Divers Ramp. I think its a good place to practise as the viz is 15-40' and depths range up to 300'. You can do a
100' + dive off the ramp on a gentle slope, or you can swim out a ways and go down a buoy which simulates a anchor line, and then can come up the "anchor line" or do an open water ascent. Can always do an open water descent also and all this with depths of 30' or 100' +. Not much to look at though there are a few things, ie. skelleton, sunken boat, dead trees, bass, catfish, carp etc. But you can't beat the price $2.00 entry to the State park. If anyone is interested check the Deep Dixie Club Page. http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?p=886044#post886044
