Anyone have a dive boat/dive company on Grand Cayman that they recommend? I prefer one that has steel tanks. Most of the companies I've called only offer 2 aluminum 80's. I'll be by myself, so a private boat will not be necessary. I'll also probably need to rent gear-- this is a family trip and I'll only have one day to dive so I won't be packing much other than a mask, snorkel, fins...

Also, if I can only dive 1 day, which dive do you recommend? (I'm more interested in marine life than wrecks)

Any advice will be helpful.

Thanks!

Gringoantonio,

Are you staying on the island or arriving on a cruise boat?

I strongly recommend Ocean Frontiers - Grand Cayman Islands, Scuba Diving, Snorkeling, Vacation Packages as they're simply the best on the island no matter where you're staying. If you are staying on the Northside or East End you'll not want to fight the traffic jam into George Town and will definitley want to do OF

If you'll be staying on SMB or are arriving for the day on a cruise and want something closer, try Grand Cayman scuba diving cayman island scuba diving cayman island scuba resort cayman scuba training cayman cayman island scuba grand cayman scuba dive cayman islands scuba diving scuba diving in grand cayman scuba diving cayman scuba diving on gran or Cayman Islands Scuba Diving. These are the shops we've enjoyed diving with. We dived with Sunset house and felt like cattle.
Also, check Cayman Activity Guide - Cayman Islands Information Guide for recommendations on dive outfits that cater to cruise ship schedules

Another vote for Ocean Frontiers here - they're a high class outfit. They are a bit of a drive if you're not staying out east, but the EE sites are worth it IMHO.

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the advice!

I'm flying out tomorrow and am very excited about my first Caribbean SCUBA & free dive experiences.

I'll be sure to share feedback when I return.

:D

Steel tanks are a rarity in Cayman. I know of a few private individuals who own them, but no operations that routinely use them.

In the warm Caribbean waters you'll need much less exposure protection. Without all that extra neoprene you'll need less weights anyway.
