Looked deep into the canyon at this site yesterday. Vis was a poor 8 feet from the SW swell. Water temp was 55 near the surface and 50 in the canyon. Did not find any of the pilings. The slope of the canyon is moderate to gentle out to 110 feet and covered in a thick mat of detritus. The detritus here consists of brown algae and surf grass and forms a layer several inches thick. It seems thicker here than the salad bowl off Veteran's Park. Juvenile scorpionfish were abundant and their size was around four inches. Though I looked, the only nudi sighted was Aplysia californica. Adults were at the top of the slope in 35 feet of water and juveniles were in the depths between 80 and 100 feet.
