Hello all,
allow me to re-iterate an old question, since last answers date back to 2015: is it worth diving off Jakarta? I'll have a few (3-4) days free there, mid-December (rough seas? Risk of missing flight back?).

I have Pulau Sepa, Pantara and Macan under my radar, the latter featuring the best reviews on Trip Advisor, but mentioning they hire Dive Master and equipment "from another island".

I understand diving is not up to other indonesian areas, but which place is nowadays more worthy, if any, in terms of diving, diving facilities and accommodation?

I'm ready to give it up, if it's not worthy, and particularly if the rainy season makes the trip back to Jakarta risky. Perhaps I'll find some other outdoor activity inland...

Thanks

Maurizio

Going out there to dive ain't worth it.

The 1000 Islands are a great weekend escape from Jakarta, and the activities on the surface are awesome if you enjoy lazy beach days as much as I do. Tiger Island is one of my favoirte places in all of Indonesia. The 1000 Islands are also fine for training purposes. One can do their open water/AOW check outs over a weekend and not have to worry about flying back for work on Monday. There are a bunch of tropicals around, decent shallow corals, nudis, and usually a turtle or two. Still, if you have four days it would make far more sense to fly to Bali or Manado, and it will cost you just as much. Finally, once rainy season starts, even the dive shops shut down their trips until March or April.

Every time I see this thread title go by I think it says something else. Then I blink my eyes, read it again and it's all good. Is anyone else having that issue?
