Pete and anyone else in the Altamonte Springs area.

I've been in Altamonte Springs three times in the past two months, and have another couple of trips planned in March and April while my girls play in volleyball tournaments in the area.

As much as I love them and support them in everyway, this travel team stuff is severely cutting into my ability to get away diving. So as I was cruising along SR 434 on the way to a gym last weekend, I saw a sign for Wekiwa Springs State Park and slapped my self in the forehead. Here I am in spring territory - why not slip away for a couple of hours and dive between matches.

So where can I go? Most of the venues are in Altamonte Springs/Winter Park and UCF, so we stay north of downtown. What's close, quick and easy that I could get a dive in?

Well... NOT Wekiva Springs. Not unless you can shrink down real small. We can go to Blue Spring (0:40 away) or Alexander Springs (1:15 away), or any one of a thousand drainage ponds and ditches. Of course we might find what the rescue class found a few years ago... a sunken car and human remains. eeeeeeeeewwwwwwweeeeeeeeeee. My number is (407) 509-0947... CALL ME.

BTW, Wekiva is also known as Wekiwa which was indian for "bubble forth". It was the home of the ancient Hekawee tribe, though they seldom camped there. Instead they roamed all though-out the Central Florida area asking other tribes (in a New York accent)...

Where da "Heck-Ah-Wee"?

Yes, as NetDoc says, Blue Spring is only a 40 minute drive away. 125 feet deep, clear water @ 72 degrees. If you don't have a park annual pass its $10.60 to dive. No gear rental so bring it all. If you can't hook up with someone at the front gate, I dive there 2 to 3 times a month on Sundays. Call me or e-mail 407-324-7448 (ask for Rodger). :snorkel:

Great - thanks guys. I'll be sure to contact you both. I believe it's the third weekend in April that I'm up there again.

I'm looking forward to my first freshwater dive. ;)

NetDoc:
Ohhh... we get to do your Spring Diver Specialty??? You're gonna have to recalibrate your NitrOx tank for that. :D

Is that a NAUI specialty? :54:

I don't think we're going to be diving in April. I just noticed that you're teaching the rescue course that same weekend. We'll try again in June.
