Im hoping this is the right forum. I am originally from MN but currently living in FL. I was wondering if anyone have any advice on diving in MN? I will be back for a couple of weeks this summer. I would probably be looking to do just one two dive trip on a lake near the twin cities.

If you know an op. that can set me up with all the gear necessary that would be great. Otherwise enjoy your weekend!

DA Aquamaster:
I have used Scuba Center Egan and they seem like nice folks.

The only lake I have dove in that area was Square Lake, about 45 minutes east of the twin cities. Not real deep (30-40 ft) but viz is pretty good. It has a few training platforms, couple sunken boats and a tail section off a Cessna.

If you go a couple hours farther east to Black River Falls WI, you can dive Lake Wazee.

Thanks, this info is very helpful!

Or you could drive a couple hours north to Duluth and dive Lake Superior. There are several wrecks that are easy shore dives. Or you can do a boat dive with http://www.superiordivers.com/ and dive the Thomas Wilson outside the Duluth Harbor

If you don't want to drive, most of the dive shops have regular fun dives during the week. The most popular local lake is Square Lake in Stillwater, but the visiblilty lately is poor. I have heard from Smith Diving that Calhoun has been pretty good lately. I dove Little Long Lake and Minnetonka recently and visiblilty has been pretty good. Take a look at the dive ops websites, most of them have links and maps to the local dive sites.

A few weeks ago I went diving in the Crosby Mine Pits. They are about 20 minutes from Brainerd and the MN School of Diving. The MN School of Diving is a great shop with a lot of helpful information. It's really easy to camp on the mine pits, and there is also a state park on the Portsmouth Mine Pit. Visibility varies from 20-60 feet in the summer. In Portsmouth we saw a lot of Northerns and other fish. The MN School of Diving has "fun dives" every other saturday and one "fun dive" during the week . Go to www.mndiving.com for more information on the diving.
