Is it warm enough to dive Madison Rock Quarry now in a full 5mm? About when is it usually warm enough? Thanks.

It's cold right now. (In my opinion.). I talked to some folks who dove
it a week or so ago and they did it in a dry suit.

I usually don't dive it until around Memorial day weekend. The surface temp
is up a good bit by then but the bottom temp is still pretty cold. It really
doesn't get "warm" until July, but the nice thing is that it's still 70f until
the first weekend of October.

Now I've been in the quarry in this water temps (50's) in a 5mm top/bottom
and it was "ok" with hood and gloves, but was very chilly getting in.
Not somthing I really plan on doing again.

You'll need a 5mm to dive it in May and most likely until July. I dove itin
July this past year in my 3mm and it was a little chilly for me (it was around
70 on the bottom.

For planning purposes you can look at the temp log on their website.
They have it for the past year or so. This years temps should be
pretty close as it takes a long time for all that water to change temp.

During Memorial Day weekend, I typically dive it in my 5mm top and a dive
skin under it to keep water from seeping in.

hope this all helps some.

I stopped by Rock Divers today and they said the temperature was 58 degrees on the surface and 55 on the bottom.

Still a little nippy for me.
