Diving like this is fun??

Yes, certain dives require certain techniques.

Sometime divers as well as other disciplines seem to get their pride out of overcomplicating things and pushing the extremes.

Myself? Not fun.

And I only dive like this under unavoidable demands that I try to avoid at all costs.

I tend to agree, but you must remember that people with poor viz have to come up with lots of procedures to stay entertained, especially the really bright people. Thats what I have decided. In many ways, they ARE better divers. More fun? I am still trying to decide on that one. One reason I ask for ice divers to post their pictures recently, is I wanted to see if they were smiling. They seem to like cutting the hole the best....you know, getting out the chain saw. It is definitely a male bonding thing from what I can tell. And the GEU website? ...More male bonding. I am sure there are some women around someplace, but you cannot help but wonder if men go to the tropics to be WITH women and the ones that are tech diving, go to get AWAY from women.

Different strokes for different folks.

The main point of the picture is it's a sidemount rig. There are many caves where that is a preferable configuration.

Fun is in the eye of the beholder. Some divers like to just mess around in the water and not go past a certain level of training and comfort. Others get their enjoyment from by pushing their training as far as it can go, and dive in places that others can't or wont. And to achive levels of control far beyond the standard. Some folks love their mini van, some drive a Viper. It's all good, as long as it's fun, and you dive safely.

Pun?....OH. stroke, good one jam.

yeah

but if it isn't for you, don't dive that way

Okay, this is my question about all this diving safely stuff. Going way back into those caves is NOT safe. I realize you make it as safe as possible, but lets not get carried away with you all having a monopoly on safety. I think it is great, don't get me wrong, but always throwing in this..."but safely" is a little funny. 300 ft., "safe".....a big adrenaline rush, a big thrill, bragging rights, yes, but it is not all that safe.

And yes, everything we want to talk about on SB, you can say ---hey if it's not for you don't do it.
Somebody could come on and say "hey I think Coz is overrated"...And then somebody would come on and say "don't go then". and thats no fun...so, I say whip out your vocabulary.

Different styles of diving appeal to different types of people and some of it is regional. It is kind of fun to ponder. I don't think he is putting anyone down, he is just remarking that it seems like a lot of WORK. And it is.

actually, i am probably safer in a cave than you are in OW due to the
redundancy built into cave diving

well, it is a lot of work. but if i enjoy it, so what? the rewards are
worth it.

if it's too much work for you, you don't have to do it. nobody's going to
force you to do it, you know.

dang it... why don't i get these memos? nobody told me this!

and here i am, diving with two female cave buddies...

hey, Jean, i'm sorry, i can't dive with you tomorrow... you're a chick!
(and Madeline, nice diving with you... but... gotta get away!)

and dang it... every time i get to a cave there's usually one or two female
cave divers with another team there... dang!!! gotta drive them off too...
