Any body diving Lake Jocassee this weekend? Looks like the lake level is up. This is the best time of the year to go.

I'll be diving Sunday (from the diver's ramp) unless the weather turns bad. Lake level is up about 5 feet. It is nice walking into the water on the ramp, instead of on rocks. Depth at the end of the ramp was about 5 feet last Sunday.

That sounds great. My plans right now are to be there Sunday. The last time I was down. I went with Off The Wall charter. I will look for you.

We are doing out advanced trimix checkouts there next weekend w/ Off the Wall. Maybe we'll see some of you guys out there.

hallelujah! PLEASE somebody else get their trimix certification so Bill can dive my house (Attakulla Lodge)! So far this year, no one has dived her. I'm still waitin' to fry chicken for the boat :D. Usually they have at least two dives on the lodge by now, but I'm thinking this might be the first year that no one goes down. :shakehead:

My buddy and I are working up dive plans to do the lodge after we get our certs taken care of. What is this fried chicken you speak of?? :)

I have a saying: Nobody's gonna visit Attakulla Lodge and not get fried chicken!" Fried chicken was the house specialty at the lodge, so lodge dives are quite an occasion. After everyone is back on the boat, we stay tied up at the lodge for about an hour and have fried chicken, brownies, trail mix, sandwiches, etc. It's my way of saying "thank you" to the guys (and one gal so far) who dive on my house. I usually jump in and hang on the line with the divers while they do their deco, too -- unless I feel a bit impish, and I might drop M&M's on the divers or lower a piece of chicken in a ziplock bag from the boat - just to tease. I remember Jackie Smith, one of the two original divers on the lodge, telling me that he was hanging on the line, doing his 1.5 hours of deco, and all he could think about was my fried chicken.

Ask Bill about the chicken :blinking:

Check out my website, if you haven't already, for the footage from the first dive. WSPA was on board with us. It was a spectacular day all the way around.

Have we met??

Deb

I checked out your site the other day. Very neat. We have not met yet but I would love to hear more about the lodge and the diving that has been done there so far. How many people have been on it so far? I never had a chance to meet Jackie but I dive on "Jackie's Boat" at my local quarry all the time and I've met a few of his dive buddies. That whole crew of guys have had some impressive feats to thier credit.

Like I said, we'll be out there all weekend so maybe we will have a chance to meet. If not, PM me your contact details and I will let you know once we get our plans together. I'll have to ask Bill about the chicken. That sounds lovely, although the dangling deco chicken is pretty cruel :).

I'm sure Bill will let me know when y'all are planning to dive the lodge. When do you expect to dive the lodge? It's a closed site: only Bill and I have the GPS coordinates to get to it. Plus, we don't want some idiots thinking they can do a bounce dive on it and live to tell about it. The divers so far have been Jackie Smith and Charles Johnson (the first two to dive her - and my heroes), Garrett VanDreel, Adam Miller, Greg Kefleck (sorry - spelling is bad on that one), Sue Street, Bill Routh, and Tom Sawicki. I guess by local quarry you mean LNQ? I've dived there with Charles - he wanted to show me the memorial area for Jackie. I plan to join it next year. My dive buddy and I have not been successful in getting together to dive this year, so I need to expand my options and buddies.

Yep, I'm talking about LNQ. We are out there all the time if you ever need a buddy. I don't blame you guys for limiting access to the lodge. I'll talk to Bill this weekend and see what he says. We'd like to dive it this year, but if Bill wants to see me more on the boat and get more comfortable with us in the deep stuff that's fine, too.
