Seoul Korea, but my Heart is still in Canada
Hello all I new to this site and to Diving. I am a proud Canadian, but I am far from my homeland teaching english in Korea. I have only done my OW so far but looking forward to AOW real soon. Being in Korea has posed some interesting situations for diving. 1) getting info on dive sites and shops most local info is in Korea (Go figure) which I don't speak. 2) Getting equipment for a guy that is much larger than the average Korean in Korea has been more than limiting, it's been freaking impossible, and getting my own equip will be more than a suggestion as rental is obviously out of the question.

Anyone else that has any suggestions or info to offer I am your humble sponge please dunk me into your wisdom.

As well any other Koreans or Expat english teachers please introduce. We'll go have a Soju and compare underwater stories.

I am looking forward to chatting with many and meeting many of you as well, preferably underwater.

Sorry for the long post I am new to this.

Welcome to the board.

I know nothing about Korea or the obstacles you face as you pursue your diving pastime. However there are members here from all over the globe. I'm sure many have faced the same issues you are and will be happy to contribute their ideas.

Given the large U.S. armed forces presence in South Korea, I would be suprised if there isn't at least one dive shop in the city that caters to the military crowd and would have "western sized" gear for sale or rental.

Good luck and please keep us posted on your AOW progress.

Just wanted to add I've had my first experience with a dive related item in Korea. I have ordered a custom made 5mm 2 piece suit through a Mares dealer. It wasn't so bad overall but I think I will wait on my other gear until I go back to the Philippines due to import duties in this country. Unless I can talk my LDS owner to trade gear for english lessons. I'll keep all updated. Thanks for all of you that have contacted me so far it's good to be among friends especially new ones.
