My wife always gets heart burn when diving. Without Prilosec she is miserable. I thought it was pretty unusual until we ran across two other divers with the same problem. She is a distance swimmer and sometimes has the same problem just swimming when she doesn't get her breathing right. What is the source of this condition?

One possibility – if not for your wife, perhaps for some others who have this symptom – is hiatal hernia combined with position in the water. At least that’s what exacerbated my gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) while diving.
See: http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/gerd/.
I now take medication, and try to spend less time with my torso tilted head downward.

:blinking:I have a similar problem solved with medication and I found the jacket inflate really make it worse so the Back Inflate BC really helped me. I have to be careful not to eat before I die or certainly not eat anything greasy or heavy. Light toast is it for me. Overbreathing can wind up with air in the stomache which exacerbates the problem as well.:blinking:

:..... I have to be careful not to eat before I die....
is that the spelling of the Aussie accent or a typo? If not either, if you don't eat, you will definitely go quicker.

:rofl3::rofl3::rofl3::rofl3: typo certainly no aussie accent. It is always advisable to eat before you die :rofl3: I just can't eat before I dive:shakehead: thanks for pointing that out to me:no:
