Diving in/near San Diego

My friend is off to San Diego for a week with work (alright for some ). He has a couple of days off and was thinking of getting a dive or two in the area.

Can anyone suggest somewhere nice to dive and a dive centre to dive with. He is recently qualified but has done a few UK drysuit dives and a few others.

we drive up the coast to Long Beach, and hop a ferry over to Catalina to dive. Overnighting on the island allows for two days of awesome Southern California diving!

but here is a link that might be interesting to check...www.divebums.com. It will give you some ideas about what options he has - shore diving or Wreck Alley. We have been out on the Lois Ann but brought all our gear with us, so I can't advise as to local shops. You may want to do a search on this board or look below in the Southern California area...

Lots of good diving in the San Diego area, as well as outfits, was just out there a couple weeks ago.
