Hi,

I recently got open water certified in Komodo and just fell in love with diving. I'm currently doing a road trip and I have 3 weeks to go from timor to Bali.
I was thinking of doing my advanced open water in Moyo Island, there in particular because I know a guy that could give me "private" lessons for an honest price and a friend of mine really enjoyed diving there. But I can't seem to find much information about this place. Would it be better value for my money to go dive in Bali instead?

Also considering that I'm doing this on the side of my studies, I don't have much money so I mainly look for dive centres and the food/accomodation I find it elsewhere.

An alternative location is Tulamben on the north-east coast of Bali. A variety of accomodation to suit all budgets. A variety of dive training centres with average price for AOW US approx. $300. Straight off the beach is a large WW2 wreck and there is also wall diving a short swim from the beach. If you go there in April/May you avoid the crowds and may get better deals on accomodation and dive training. Abundance of marine life e.g. moray eels, barracuda, reef sharks. The large wreck attracts an abundance of colourful tropical marine life.

“Private” lessons for an honest price sounds good to me. Go for it!

Moyo is OK. I’ve dove there about 7 times. The last one was in August last year. You can reef dive in Angel Reef, Little Angel, Angel Ridge, and muck diving in Juliet at Labuan Haji. You can see in the first 2.5 minutes & the last minute of my trip video, below.

I stayed in Amanwana at one time. Stayed in where Princess Diana used to stay for her holiday in Moyo. Great resort!
