My wife and I are new divers. We still are very excited any time we dive. All dosen dives we took were in Carribean. This September we will have an opportunity to dive in Mexican Riviera. Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas and Mazatlan. We would like to dive in Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas and do something else in Puerto Vallarta. Any advise for dive location and dive operators will be greatly appreciated.

Igor.

September will have nice, warm water in the 80s all along the coast. I have gone to Cabo several times in Sept and love the diving then, the visibility is usually in the 40 to 50 foot range with lots of particulate matter, I found about the same vis and a little bit warmer water in Puerto Vallarta.
Cabo is a good choice for diving because there are lots of fish, eels, rays and sea lions to see (not much soft coral) and the dive sites are about 5 minutes boat ride from the cruise ship pier. Dive op Amigos del mar is closest to the cruise ship pier.

Puerto Vallarta diving is a half hour from the cruise ship dock to get to the closest dive site which is Los Arcos. The other sites are farther out in the bay and take at least an hour and a half to get to. Dive op Pacific Scuba or Twin Dolphins.

I have not dove in Mazatlan but have researched it on the scubaboard and couldn't find much good information.
have fun. Choco

I love diving both Cabo and PV. I was there most recently last September (and will be in Cabo at the end of August). The water was in the mid-80s. I like Underwater Diversions in Cabo. However, most ops there are pretty good. It is a quick ride to the dive sites. PV is also good diving. Even though its a cattle boat, I like Villarta Adventures. I've been with them on about 6 trips to PV. Even though the boat includes swimmers, snorklers, etc. I find its a good dive, especially given that its a vacation dive. The DMs have all been outstanding. The boat is big and comfortable, which is nice for the long ride to the dive site. You'll have a good time with them.

There is no diving in Mazatlan. I've been there on a bunch of cruises and have never found either diving or a viable place to dive.

If you've never been on a cruise, there is lots of good info on SB relative to diving while cruising and cruising in general. If you need some tips, PM me.
